One for the Boys: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold Limited Edition 41MM

16 October 2017

By Peter Vossner

Last year saw the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak for women, marking the four decades from when Jacqueline Dimier reinterpreted Gérald Genta's initial 1972 model into a lighter and sleeker version back in 1976.

On the occasion last November, the Swiss watch manufacture from Le Brassus launched a new timepiece available in both white gold and pink gold created in collaboration with Florentine jewellery designer, Carolina Bucci.

The eye-catching feature is the shimmering sparkle, a result of a surface treatment process rooted in an ancient gold hammering technique, also called the Florentine technique. This was a textured surface decoration on precious metal invented decades ago, predominantly on smaller jewellery pieces.

As expected the first Frosted Gold Royal Oaks for women were successful and it led to several men asking the brand for a larger diameter for the boys.

With that, Audemars Piguet has now unveiled the new Royal Oak Frosted Gold Limited Edition 41mm of 200 pieces, in just as luxurious offering as its fairer sex equivalent.

18-carat white gold case and bracelet, glareproofed sapphire crystal caseback, blue toned "Grande Tapisserie" dial and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.

Frankly, we didn't expect anything less.
