The pursuit of absolute precision has found a new and exclusive expression in the G.F.J. tantalum. At Watches and Wonders 2026, Zenith unveiled this limited edition of just twenty pieces, a creation that extends chronometric excellence into the realm of rare and inherently exacting materials. Named after the brand's founder Georges Favre-Jacot, the G.F.J. serves as a contemporary home for the Calibre 135, the most awarded observatory movement in history.

This new execution houses the disciplined architecture of its legendary movement within tantalum, a metal defined by its blue-grey hue and metallic luminosity. Tantalum is notoriously difficult to machine due to its extreme density and hardness, demanding specialized tools and absolute control in fabrication. Zenith has turned these material constraints into a defining element of the watch's character, creating a 39.5mm case that feels compact, weighty, and deliberate.

The dial continues this study in depth through a central disc of black onyx that presents a polished, liquid surface. An oversized small seconds counter at 6 o'clock is rendered in grey mother-of-pearl, punctuating the monochrome composition with subtle tonal variation. Encircling the periphery, a brick-pattern guilloché sector inspired by the Zenith Manufacture façade adds structural detail to the face of the chronometer.

Eleven baguette-cut diamond indexes are set with architectural precision, their linear forms mirrored by slender white gold faceted hands. This interplay creates a composition defined by restraint, where every element contributes to a sense of balance and proportion. Each timepiece is delivered with a blue nubuck alligator leather strap, alongside additional options in black alligator and grey calfskin to suit the wearer's preference.

At the heart of the G.F.J. beats the Calibre 135, which secured a record-breaking 235 chronometry prizes in the mid-twentieth century. Re-engineered for the modern era, the movement retains its classic 2.5 Hz frequency while delivering seventy-two hours of power reserve and a stop-second mechanism for precise time setting. Each calibre is regulated to a demanding standard and is officially certified by the COSC.

The sapphire caseback reveals the dark ruthenium finish of the movement, which echoes the deep tone of the tantalum exterior. This measured and architectural character celebrates the pioneering spirit of Zenith, a manufacture that has remained at the forefront of Swiss watchmaking for over one hundred and sixty years. Through the G.F.J. tantalum, the brand continues to empower those who challenge conventions and strive for greatness.
