TAG Heuer redefines a square icon with the new Monaco Chronograph - Watches & Wonders 2026 #WatchesandWonders2026

The world of high-velocity style has a new centerpiece as TAG Heuer unveils a sophisticated reimagining of its most elective silhouette. More than half a century after its daring debut, the celebrated TAG Heuer Monaco enters its next chapter with a new design that elevates both comfort and refinement. This next generation enhances the signature square shape with dynamic lines, offering improved ergonomics while reinforcing the contemporary character that has defined the model since 1969.

The history of this timepiece is rooted in a pivotal moment when the watchmaking industry shifted toward the convenience of self-winding movements. To mark the milestone of the first automatic chronograph, TAG Heuer introduced a visionary model that looked like nothing else on the market. Its brushed angular case and bold use of vivid blue immediately set it apart, attracting avant-garde creatives like Sammy Davis Jr., Stanley Kubrick, and Steve McQueen as its earliest adopters.

For this latest reinterpretation, the Maison returned to the origins of the story, specifically the original reference 1133. The new 39 mm case is now crafted in grade 5 titanium, featuring sharp angular edges and gently curved sides. The caseback has been carefully redesigned with a smaller round central section that curves toward the edges to enhance overall wearability and comfort on the wrist.

At the heart of the watch lies one of its most significant upgrades, the new in-house Calibre TH20-11. This automatic movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and a bi-compax layout that pays homage to the original configuration of the sixties. A signature code remains deeply appreciated by collectors: the crown positioned on the left side of the case, a practical reminder of the revolutionary spirit that first powered the collection.

The collection is presented in three distinct colorways to suit every aesthetic. Fans of classic cinema will recognize the signature blue dial inspired by Steve McQueen’s appearance in the 1971 film Le Mans. A refined sunray-brushed dark green version draws on the heritage of British Racing Green, while an elegant black model is housed in a striking two-tone case of grade 5 titanium and 18K 5N rose gold. Each piece is paired with a racing-inspired perforated leather strap, ensuring the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph remains a contemporary icon.
