The Lion King in the Lion City

Marina Bay Sands together with BASE Entertainment, a specialist in the production and management of live entertainment properties and theatre operations, has today announced that the critically-acclaimed Broadway musical The Lion King will make its Southeast Asia debut in March 2011.

Tickets for the musical are set to go on sale from October 2010 and rehearsals for full cast and crew are scheduled for January 2011.

Marina Bay Sands President and CEO Thomas Arasi said, “We know there is tremendous excitement and anticipation in Singapore and around the region because of this award-winning Broadway musical. Our plan is to have a spectacular, world-class performance in March 2011 right here in Singapore. Featuring Disney’s The Lion King is one more step towards fulfilling our dream of having the best-of-the-best in Singapore and in Asia.”

Scott Zeiger, co-CEO of BASE Entertainment, said, “We have been working closely with Marina Bay Sands from day one and we can all see that Marina Bay Sands is a true architectural marvel."

The engineering work at this integrated resort boasts some of the most challenging endeavours and we are certain that we will have access to the very best theatre facilities next year. The management is unwavering in its commitment to providing us with international standard stage and we simply cannot wait to see the captivating performance that will be put on for the world, right here in Singapore.”

Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Productions, said, “We are excited and honored to be bringing THE LION KING to Singapore. Along with our partners at Marina Bay Sands and BASE Entertainment, Disney Theatrical Productions is thrilled to become a part of the vibrant and growing theatre and arts scene in Singapore and the surrounding region.”

Singapore will join other leading cities hosting THE LION KING including New York, London, Hamburg, Paris, Tokyo and Las Vegas, when the show is unveiled next year. The musical will duplicate the other productions performing around the globe with the same Broadway-quality standards, spectacular music, dance, sets and costumes that have made it a worldwide phenomenon.
