Greubel Forsey unveils the Nano Foudroyante: nanomechanics made real

Greubel Forsey has long been revered for redefining the possibilities of haute horlogerie. Now, the Maison presents a new milestone with the official launch of the Nano Foudroyante, its first limited edition of this groundbreaking invention. No longer bound to the experimental chapter of its origins, this extraordinary timepiece steps into maturity with a distinct identity, limited to just 22 pieces.

From experiment to icon

Originally revealed in 2024 as an Experimental Watch Technology prototype, the Nano Foudroyante was the most radical concept ever conceived by Greubel Forsey. Today, it emerges as a fully realised creation. Crafted entirely in white gold, the new edition introduces a rhodium-finished gold dial with a blue minute track, blued steel hands, and a crisp white foudroyante dial with transferred numerals. A blue textured rubber strap underscores its modern character, signalling its evolution into an independent design.

Nanomechanics, mastered

At its core lies a true horological revolution: nanomechanics. Operating at the nanojoule scale, the mechanism consumes just 16 nanojoules per jump — 1,800 times less energy than traditional designs. The foudroyante hand, treated in red, divides each second into six precise beats, driven directly by the 3 Hz balance wheel without the need for a conventional gear train.

Compact power, pure refinement

The mechanism is embedded within Greubel Forsey’s first flying tourbillon, a permanent focal point on the dial. Despite comprising 428 components — 142 within the tourbillon cage alone — the movement remains remarkably compact, housed within a 37.9 mm white gold case, the smallest in the Maison’s history. Finishing details, from the high-domed sapphire crystal to the polished relief engravings against a hand-hammered backdrop, elevate the design into sculpture.

With the Nano Foudroyante, Greubel Forsey marks its 10th Fundamental Invention not as a concept, but as a fully fledged creation: a testament to vision, refinement, and the art of making the impossible not only possible, but wearable.
