Panerai has built its reputation on creating essential tools for military operations where self-sufficiency was paramount. The brand’s history of extended power reserves offered a crucial advantage to naval forces, providing dependable and uninterrupted timekeeping while minimizing the need for frequent winding. With the introduction of the Luminor 31 Giorni PAM01631, the Maison elevates this technical foundation to a new standard of a month-long power reserve.

This extraordinary 31-day power reserve is the result of seven years of dedicated research by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee. The skeletonized hand-wound P.2031/S movement achieves this through a sophisticated system of four spring barrels housing 3.3 meters of mainsprings. This configuration ensures both efficiency and longevity by minimizing friction and stress on the pivots.

A central innovation in this movement is the patent-pending Torque Limiter system. This mechanism optimizes the watch's performance by selecting an ideal 31-day operational window from a potential 36-day power reserve. By cutting the top and bottom of the torque barrel, the movement ensures enhanced chronometry and remains consistent throughout its entire duration of operation.

The PAM01631 embodies the iconic design of the Luminor within a 44mm case crafted from Panerai Goldtech™. This special alloy, composed of gold and copper with a touch of platinum and silver, offers a distinctive red hue and elevated durability. The skeletonized structure provides a multi-dimensional view of the mechanics, which is amplified by a see-through sapphire crystal caseback.

User convenience remains a priority through the inclusion of a patented jumping hour hand mechanism, allowing for quick time adjustments without disturbing the minute and second hands. A curved power reserve indicator is precisely aligned with the perimeter of the calibre to offer an intuitive gauge of remaining energy. For visibility in low light, the hands and markers are finished with white Super-LumiNova X2.

As Alessandro Ficarelli, Chief Marketing and Product of Panerai, says, "At Panerai, our heritage is the bedrock of every timepiece, each infused with the distinctive creativity of our Italian design. We are driven to continually push the boundaries of R&D, especially in areas central to our DNA, such as power reserve technology. The new Luminor 31 Giorni stands as a powerful testament to this philosophy, showcasing Panerai's profound mastery of power reserve and the relentless innovation of our Laboratorio di Idee".
