Alcaraz defeats Sinner to claim US Open title - the Rolex Testimonee returns to world No 1

9 September 2025

Carlos Alcaraz defeated defending champion Jannik Sinner in four sets to win the US Open men’s singles title at Flushing Meadows on Sunday. The 22-year-old Spaniard prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to capture his second US Open crown and sixth grand slam title overall.

With the victory, the Rolex Testimonee will reclaim the world No 1 ranking, replacing Sinner at the top. He becomes the second-youngest man in the Open era to win six majors, behind Björn Borg, and the fourth to claim multiple titles across all three surfaces.

The final was the third major championship meeting between the two men this year, with Alcaraz now leading their head-to-head 10-5. He has won seven of their past eight encounters.

Alcaraz dominated the opening set with powerful serving and a precise forehand. Sinner responded in the second, breaking early and levelling the match. But Alcaraz quickly reasserted control, sweeping through the third set and maintaining his advantage in the fourth despite Sinner’s resistance.

The triumph caps a strong summer for Alcaraz and reinforces his status as the leading force of men’s tennis.
