IWC Schaffhausen continues its cherished tradition of welcoming the Chinese Lunar New Year with a dedicated horological masterpiece. The Swiss manufacturer has unveiled the Portugieser Automatic 42 Year of the Horse, a timepiece that captures the strength and spirited independence associated with this zodiac sign.
Limited to just five hundred pieces, the watch features a stainless steel case and a deep burgundy dial inspired by the auspicious red tones synonymous with the festivities. Golden hands and appliques add a touch of warmth to the balanced layout, which maintains the classic aesthetic of the small seconds and power reserve displays first introduced to the collection in 2000.
The true artistry of this edition lies within its refined engineering, visible through a box-shaped sapphire crystal case back. Powering the watch is the IWC-manufactured 52011 calibre, which boasts an impressive seven-day power reserve and an automatic winding system crafted from virtually wear-free ceramic. In a charming tribute to the season, the gold-plated rotor is intricately shaped into a galloping horse to symbolize the vitality and progress that the new year promises.
For added versatility, the timepiece is delivered with both black and burgundy alligator leather straps, each secured by a stainless steel folding clasp. This elegant creation serves as a sophisticated companion for those pursuing new goals with the same courage and adventure that the horse embodies.
