Lewis Hamilton Takes F1 Drivers Championship Lead for the 1st Time, Heads to Singapore Grand Prix Next
By SENATUS Magazine | 4 September 2017

Lewis Hamilton won the 2017 Italian Grand Prix held in Monza this past Sunday, driving from pole to the checkered flag and moved ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to take the lead in the drivers' standings for the first time this year.

The British driver of the Mercedes team finished nearly five seconds ahead of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas while Vettel came third in his Ferrari, more than half a minute behind.

Hamilton now has 238 points, three more than Vettel with seven races remaining, and the Singapore Grand Prix next on the cards later this month.

Vettel had led the standings all season but Ferrari struggled in rainy qualifying conditions on Saturday and couldn’t match Mercedes’ race pace, either, on a Monza circuit featuring long straights and high speeds better suited to Mercedes’ power.

The finish was Hamilton's 59th career win and also the first time a driver this season has had back-to-back wins.

On to Singapore, next!
