Gucci has dedicated two of the rooms at the Gucci Museo (Museum) in Florence to its former creative director Tom Ford. The American designer was widely credited with turning the fortunes of the Italian label around during his tenure, and yet until now, had not been given quite the recognition he deserves, given the need to give some space for subsequent creative directors (namely Frida Giannini) to develop their own style and artistic voice.

Ford, who joined Gucci in 1990 as the brand's chief women's ready-to-wear designer under then-creative director Dawn Mello, eventually took over in 1994. He left Gucci in 2004 with CEO Domenico de Sole, and the two later started the TOM FORD label.

Unveiled during the recent Pitti Uomo, Men's Fashion Week event in Florence, the commemorative rooms coincided with a book signing for a new Gucci book, "Epiphany."

Gucci’s current creative director, Alessandro Michele, curated the looks on display at the museum, picking outfits from runway shows that were the most iconic and influential for the house under Ford’s direction.
