Michael Bastian Spring Summer 2014 | New York Fashion Week
By Men's Journal Online | 5 September 2013

New York-born designer Michael Bastian looked to 1950 and 1960s French cinema for his latest collection. In particular, Bastian was inspired by the 1956 film The Red Balloon and the 2003 film, The Dreamers, set in Paris during the sexually-liberating 1960s. Frilly prints like pineapples on pants and cheetah patterns on jumpers and slim belts were mixed with signature Bastian pieces like rugby polos and sexy and cropped shorts.

Adding a but of modernity to the collection, there was a cheeky reference to social media like a "Follow Me" patch on a sweater. In all, it was a romantic and intimate collection that looked to the allure and sexuality of French men mixed with Bastian's neo-dandy aesthetic.
