Vertu Launches the Vertu Ti, its First Android-Powered Smartphone

30 April 2013

By Scott Campbell

Vertu, the market leader in luxury mobile phones, has unveiled its latest touchscreen smartphone powered by Android, making this its first handset that does not utilize the Symbian operating system since its acquisition by Nokia— Until October 2012, Vertu had been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Finnish manufacturer.

The Vertu Ti is set to be the British company's pinnacle smartphone offering.

Encased in grade 5 titanium for lightweight carrying experience — "light" but still  substantial, just like how a well-made watch feels on your wrist —  the Vertu Ti also features leather accents as well as the largest sapphire crystal screen ever engineered at 3.7 inches.

The sapphire crystal renders the screen virtually scratch proof and it is tested to be four times stronger than other smart phones in terms of impact resistance, protecting beneath it, a high resolution display.

These aspects are indicative of the advanced material innovation of the luxury phone maker, with the top of the range made with 18 carat red gold, black titanium, ceramic and leather.

Containing elements of the iconic Vertu design, the Ti much like the rest of the Vertu family of phones is handmade in England, and runs on a custom Vertu interface based on the stable release of Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which supports Adobe System's flash player, vs. the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which does not.

The most powerful Vertu handset to date runs on a 1.7 GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 64GB Internal memory. Other features include an 8MP rear camera with auto focus and twin LED flash, able to capture videos at 1080p definition, as well as a 1.3MP front-facing Skype compliant camera, and finally secure near-field communication technology.

The impeccable audio quality is a product between the close collaboration between the acoustic experts at Vertu and Bang & Olufsen, who engineered the booming audio and speech capabilities of the phone, as well as the musical punctuation (alerts and ringtones) that emits from the handset, courtesy of the London Symphony Orchestra.

As for customer support, a team of professionals are available 24/7 to provide services which include:

  • Vertu Certainty, which helps protect the device, data and the customer
  • Vertu Life, which includes tailored information and articles
  • Vertu Concierge, for booking exclusive hotels and dinner reservations

This is the most rounded product that we have ever designed.

"The new Android platform and elegant physical presence combined with Vertu’s renowned curated benefits and services deliver a unique and exceptional proposition,” Massimiliano Pogliani, Vertu’s Global Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, said.
