Joshua Bell to Perform with Singapore Chinese Orchestra

21 August 2018

By Natalie White

Joshua Bell will be performing with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) at the SCO Concert Hall, and will be recorded live on 31 August and released by music label Sony Classical next year.

A day earlier, the Grammy-award winning violinist will perform in a public concert at the Esplanade Theatre, the aforementioned concerto as well as other violin masterpieces including Thaïs: Méditation, Zigeunerweisen and Tambourin Chinois.

The recording and show date in Singapore marks the American fiddler's debut on the Chinese concerto, which is considered a classic of the Chinese musical repertoire and based on a classic tale of star-crossed love. The concerto was written in 1959 by composers He Zhanhao and Chen Gang.

Bell made his debut with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra in 2016 but then played his usual Western repertoire from Vivaldi, Saint-Saens and Sarasate.
