Rado and Tej Chauhan reunite for a futuristic gold makeover of the DiaStar Original
By SENATUS Magazine | 28 November 2025

The intersection of high-concept industrial design and Swiss horology has yielded a spectacular sequel as the Master of Materials rejoins forces with the British superstar of industrial design. The Rado DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan arrives with the aesthetic of a glamorous time machine that looks as if it could have been delivered straight from 2025. This timepiece represents the product of a great watch brand working in close cooperation with the father of Emotive Industrial Design.

Tej Chauhan was charged with the formidable mission of reinterpreting the DiaStar Original which first created a sensation upon its launch in April of 1962. He has respected the legacy of that accurate and enduring icon while delivering an update that extends its story beautifully. The visual impact is immediate thanks to a reimagined case featuring a Ceramos bezel coated in yellow-gold coloured PVD. This radiant effect is brilliantly extended by the stainless steel case middle and crown which share the same opulent finish.

The face of the watch is a study in complex contrasts where an alluring matt black dial sits proudly beneath a radial faceted sapphire crystal. A printed minute track in silver and blue offers a pleasing counterpoint to the complex geometry while the applied indexes at each five-minute interval echo this cool colour palette. The design takes a riveting turn with a neon yellow seconds hand that sweeps across the dial to highlight the day-date window featuring the designer's own proprietary font.

Beneath the futuristic exterior beats the heart of the celebrated calibre R764 automatic movement which delivers an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. The watch guarantees outstanding timekeeping performance thanks to an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring and is water resistant to 100 metres. The look is completed by a strap that could only have come from the mind of Chauhan. Crafted from grey pillow-shaped rubber, it secures the wrist with a polished dark grey PVD coated stainless steel clasp that ensures extraordinary wearer comfort.
