M.A.D.2: A Love Letter To The Pulse Of The ’90s

When MB&F launched the M.A.D.1, it tore up the rulebook. Now, the M.A.D.2 arrives—not as a sequel, but as a new chapter, penned by Eric Giroud, longtime friend, collaborator, and design provocateur. For the 20th anniversary of MB&F, Maximilian Büsser handed Giroud the creative reins. The result? A watch that trades the workshop’s futuristic codes for the raw electricity of 1990s club culture.

Lausanne nights, neon memories

While his peers pursued staid Swiss tradition, Eric Giroud was out on the dancefloor. Nights at Lausanne’s legendary MAD (Moulin à Danses) and Dolce Vita clubs shaped his sensibility, surrounded by DJs, artists, and dreamers. With house music thundering from Technics SL-1200s and freedom in the air, he earned the nickname “Erico,” living a life where design pulsed to the rhythm of vinyl grooves and stroboscopic light. Those nights are now immortalized in the M.A.D.2.

From the DJ booth to the wrist

At its heart, the M.A.D.2 transforms horology into a visual remix. Raised subdials evoke twin turntables, while the textured central plate recalls vinyl tracks etched in satin grooves. The surrounding platter riffs on the iconic stroboscopic band of the SL-1200—complete with Super-LumiNova stop pins that glow like club lights. The spinning rotor, visible front and back, doubles as the watch’s kinetic dance floor, its gyroscopic motion echoing the beat.

The hidden drop

The surprise lies in the center: a bi-directional jumping hour, revealed only upon closer look. Tiny sculptural markers—part pick, part almond, part alien eye—point to the hours and minutes with playful ambiguity. It’s a complication that whispers instead of shouts, rewarding time spent in its orbit.

Playful precision, Swiss soul

At 42mm, the M.A.D.2 wears smooth and unexpected, balancing rebellion with refinement. Beneath its design bravado beats the La Joux-Perret movement of the M.A.D.1S, now elevated with MB&F’s bespoke jumping hour module. Swiss-made, Swiss-assembled, and unapologetically bold, it’s a watch that carries the spirit of rave nights into the present.

The M.A.D.2 isn’t nostalgia—it’s a beat reborn.
