Hermès ARCEAU Costume de Fête inspired by Polish folk culture
By SENATUS Editor | 22 July 2024

The ARCEAU Costume de Fête watch, inspired by Polish folk culture, showcases a fusion of pearls, sequins, and colored leather.

Designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, this timepiece is a testament to Hermès’ blend of classicism and uniqueness. Its distinctive round shape, enhanced by asymmetrical lugs, is a canvas for creativity and craftsmanship. The watch interprets the Costume de Fête silk scarf, designed by Warsaw-born artist Jan Bajtlik, through techniques like miniature painting, leather marquetry, and sequins.

Available in two variants, one in white gold and the other in rose gold, both are adorned with 82 diamonds. Each variant presents a unique color palette, highlighting the equestrian motif inspired by Polish folk art. The meticulous art of wycinanki (paper cut-outs) is evident in the miniature dial designs, featuring vibrant beads on a metal base, layered with micro-paint.

The centerpiece of the Arceau Costume de Fête, a spirited horse, is crafted through leather marquetry with thin leather tesserae and enhanced with hand-applied sequins. The attention to detail extends to the hand-painted harness details on the leather.

Encased in a 38 mm diameter case, the Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, showcasing its intricate ‘sprinkling of Hs’ pattern. Completing the design are straps in sakura pink or electric blue Swift calfskin, echoing the lively watch tones. Each color variant is available in a limited edition of 24 pieces.
