Robert Downey Jr. and Channing Tatum have leapt to the top of the earners' list amongst Hollywood actors, on the back of a strong year, displacing the usual names of Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio or Johnny Depp. 48 year old Robert Downey Jr. is the highest-paid actor earning the $75M from his headlining roles in "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3" whilst 33 year old Channing Tatum took in $60M this year. Third-placed Hugh Jackman earned $55M between "Les Misérables" and "The Wolverine."
The two stars of the forthcoming film "Pain & Gain," Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, take the fourth and fifth spots, with $52M and $46M respectively.
Leonardo DiCaprio comes in at sixth place this year with his $39M, edging out Adam Sandler by $2M.
Leading the list in 2012, Tom Cruise saw his salary plummet from $75M to $35M over the year. In eighth place in the latest list, he is slightly ahead of Denzel Washington ($33M). The tenth and final spot is occupied by Liam Neeson, who became an action film star rather late in his career. The actor took in $32M over the period analyzed by Forbes, from May 2012 to May 2013.
To compile the list, Forbes investigated the artist fees, advances and interests received for films as well as advertising partnerships, and also estimates the actors' royalties.
